Social and other activities 1.Born in the family of dedicated agriculturist; is a progressive farmer in Bellary District; joined Congress 1956 and for the first time she was elected to the Assembly from Manvi Constituency and was elected to the Legislative Assembly from the same constituency for the next two terms.
2.Was Deputy Minister for Minor Irrigation and Social Welfare in the Veerendra Patil's Ministry during 1967 to 69, worked for the cause of promoting education in the backward areas and was Founder President, Tagore Memorial Education Society, Raichur ; is deeply acquainted with the grievances of the farmers under major irrigation projects, was the Chairman of Committee for hearing the grievances of the farmers in the Tunga-Bhadra Project area; worked for the cause of the uplifting of the poor by occupying key places in various trusts, associations and institutions , was founder Vice-President of the Institute of the Parliamentary Affairs, Bangalore.
3.Joined Congress (R) from Congress (0) in the year 1972; elected to the Karnataka Legislative Council from Local Authorities Constituency, Raichur District. in 1976; takes active part in all the activities of the Congress (I) party in the State and owes affiliation to it, was elected as the Chairman of the Karnataka Legislative Council on 12th June, 1980.
